The Rebel is a one
design class sailboat. All Rebel hulls are produced from the same mold.
Rebels are built to the class rules and cannot be changed or modified
by the boat builder unless authorized by the Class. This is the basic
definition of all one design class sail boats. Nickels Boat Works builds the Rebel and several other one design class sail boats. They are known world wide for quality and strict attention to class rules. The Rebel is built to last a life time with some over 50 years old and still sailing. The Rebel Sailing brochure shows photos with the typical crew of two, but the Rebel can also be day sailed with six passengers in the roomy cockpit. With its large steel center board, it is extremely stable and always comfortable to sail. Rebel specifications; Overall length - 16' 1 4"

Will this work, maybe but what we are doing right now is certainly
not enough. To help pay for this I'm asking Neil to not pay for the
next Harken ad as the ad has not provided us with any measurable
return. That reduction would leave a bit short of that number, but
we have a nice upward swing in membership that is already proving us
some momentum.
Much of the momentum has been generated by a great pair of part-time
Rebel sailors who literally reside at the polar ends of North
America. Hailing from Oakville, Ontario Wayfarer Champion Al
Schonborn continues his efforts to keep our Class on the viewable
edge of the internet. Check out:
http://www.wayfarer-canada.org/00Rebels.on.line/11Rebel_Nats/11RN_index2.html,
for a great pictorial of our 2011 Nationals in Greenwood Lake. The
North American Wayfarer sailors have a regular schedule of events
that they travel to annually. And, one of their ports of calls
happens to be Eustis, Florida.
Al is/was so confident that Rebel sailors would join the Wayfarers
in Eustis, Florida that he announced the Wayfarer & Rebel Midwinters,
February 3-5, 2012 on Lake Eustis with his winter promo at:
http://www.wayfarer-canada.org/00coming.up/Midwinters_promo.html.
This is all possible of course since it was Glenda Libby
sailing “QT” with the Lake Eustis Sailing Club who extended the
original invitation to join their annual regatta. Her latest e-mail
continues her encouragement for us to join them.
“I'm sure one of these days I'll get to see a fleet of Rebels on
Lake Eustis! Build it, and they will come! We have a great
destination to not only race but enjoy central FL so I'm sure we'll
make it happen one of these years!
Sailed QT in Oct. from Melbourne to Sebastian Inlet spoil islands
for a fun 2 day camping trip, then in Nov., towed her behind my
friends Hunter 34' for a fun weeklong sailing adventure and
gathering with all my trailer sailor friends. You can share the link
w/everyone if they would enjoy seeing how much fun my Rebel is
providing and just how many wonderful places you can explore with
them.

http://ftp.ij.net/wctss/wctss/photos78.html . Just a little
photo gallery of a great mix of boats and sailors!
Also, let everyone know, if they are in this area, please feel-free
to email me and if I'm in town, I'd be happy to show them around the
lake and even take a sail on my old, faithful Rebel, or my MC Scow,
just whichever one I have at the club at that time!” Thanks Glenda,
I for one plan on accepting the offer before December 21st
of this year!
No I’m not all that worried about that or any other prediction.
Heck, I’ve been predicting a win at the Nationals for myself for
decades now, and my best is still a third in a shortened race. No
matter, there are plenty of sailing opportunities for us to
reinvigorate the Rebel Class. To that end Al has once again given us
news of a brand new venue. Jim Best advised Al and us as follows.
“The Bayview One Design Regatta is scheduled for June 1, 2, and 3.
In the past it has been our NOOD regatta and a keel boat event. Due
to the cost from the organization that puts on the NOOD Regattas and
the fact that we have traditionally done most of the work the club
has decided to do it on our own.
Having said that, the club has decided to invite dinghies. The
dinghies will race in the river in front of the club. I have raced
there many times and it's great. When the wind is light in the lake
there is often more air in the river due to the funneling affect.
When I heard that BYC was inviting dinghies I thought it would be
perfect for the Wayfarer. All the class has to do is show up! It is
a 3 day event with excellent race committee, food and alcohol. Who
could ask for anything more? Some of the classes will only be racing
on Saturday and Sunday so if that would be better it can be
arranged. I have a class coordinators meeting this week and will
represent the Wayfarer class if you all thing the Wayfarer's will
participate? Nick has guaranteed at least 15 boats! Let me know what
you thing about 2 or 3 days?
We have never had tents at the yacht club, we don't have much lawn
but RV's have always been welcome. There are bathrooms with showers.
I am sure tents could be pitched in Nick's back yard. He is only a
few miles from the club. Sound great to me, wonder what Bob Davey
will think?

e also understand that the “2011 Storer Trophy goes to Uncle Al plus
two Michiganders, Tony Krauss and Shannon Shank. The trio above has
won the Wayfarer equivalent of the Gold Cup. To win this award,
Shannon, Tony and Al compiled the best aggregate score in our 2011
majors: the North Americans, the Ontario’s as well as the Canadian
and U.S. Nationals.
The Rabble will be out soon, read more there.
